ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday cancelled all postings and transfers made after May 31 in a bid to conduct the 2018 general elections fairly.
The commission reasoned that the section 5(4) of the elections act forbids government as well as the caretaker setup of making transfers and postings without the prior approval of the ECP after the issuance of election programme.
In a notification, the ECP said, “The postings/transfers, which were made after issuance of election programme i.e. May 31, 2018, stand cancelled ab-initio.”
“[A] compliance report [should] be submitted,” it adds.
The ECP has asked the caretaker government to send proposals of postings and transfers “if so required expedient in public interest, of officers/officials for consideration of the Election Commission.”
Meanwhile, the ECP has started accepting nomination papers for the 2018 elections after the Supreme Court suspended Lahore High Court’s order pertaining to the revision in the parliament-made nomination papers.
