LEEDS: England thrashed Pakistan by an innings and 55 runs to win the second Test at Headingley on Sunday to draw the two-match series 1-1.
After bowling out England for 363 in the first innings, Pakistan crumbled to 134 all out in their second innings on day three of the Headingley Test.
Only Imam-ul-Haq (34) and Test debutant Usman Salahuddin (33) managed to put up some resistance, as the rest of the batting folded.
Earlier, Jos Buttler´s blistering 80 not out off 101 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes, took England to 363 in their first innings.
Faheem Ashraf topped the tally with 3 wickets. Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas and Hasan Ali took 2 wickets each, while Shadab Khan managed one.
Earlier, nightwatchman Dominic Bess led a determined batting effort, helping England to build a significant first-innings lead after Pakistan were dismissed for a meagre 174 on Friday.
The 20-year-old fell one run short of his second successive Test half-century when he edged to slip.
The Yorkshire keeper looked at ease in his home surroundings and struck successive boundaries in the 80th over before thin-edging his next ball to the keeper.
Victory, completed inside three days, saw England level the two-match series at 1-1 after Pakistan won the first Test at Lord’s by nine wickets.
It was also England’s first victory in a Test match since they beat the West Indies at Lord’s in September, with the side having endured a winless run of six defeats in eight Tests coming into this fixture.
By sharing the spoils in this short campaign, England also avoided a third successive series defeat after reverses in Australia and New Zealand.
