–Suspected suicide attacker killed in exchange of fire with security personnel

KARACHI: Two officials of the Sindh Rangers were injured in what appears to be a suicide blast, a spokesperson for the law enforcement agency said on Saturday night.

“Two Rangers personnel were injured. The incident looks like a planned suicide attack,” he said while talking to a media outlet.

The suspect allegedly detonated a bomb, causing his own death and injuring the officials of the paramilitary force nearby.

The suspect, who was asked to stop near the check post for routine snap checking, had earlier opened fire on the security personnel resulting in retaliatory firing from the Rangers force, said a private news channel.

Other reports said the suspect opened fire at the security personnel, as a result of retaliatory fire the explosive jacket of the attacker exploded. Two Rangers personnel also sustained injuries as a result of the explosion. Sector Commander Brigadier Naseem Pervez said that soldiers of Rangers’ 71 Wing foiled the suicide attack.

Meanwhile, BDS officials have been called to search and clear the site of incident.

The Rangers spokesperson confirmed that the blast occurred near Hub checkpost during snap checking, adding that the unknown armed assailants opened fire at the Rangers team.

The firing was exchanged between Rangers personnel and the alleged terrorists, he said. The Rangers official assured that they are currently collecting information regarding the blast.
