Pak-China military exchanges to help maintain peace, stability

BEIJING: While commenting on Chinese Central Military Commission Vice Chairman Gen Zhang Youxia recent visit to Pakistan, a China’s Ministry of National Defense spokesman said on Thursday that it would help maintain peace and stability in South Asia as well as in the whole world.

“The visit will help enhance strategic communications between the two states and it will also help build military strategic and mutual trust and interest,” Senior Colonel Ren Guoqiang said during his monthly briefing held in China’s Ministry of National Defense here.

The spokesman said during his visit, Gen Zhang Youxia held meetings with Pakistan’s civil and military leadership and discussed the regional security situation.

“They also talked about cooperation in areas such as counter-terrorism, joint training, joint exercises, equipment and technologies as well as peacekeeping,” he added.

He said the two sides had also agreed to further enhance exchanges and cooperation under some multilateral framework including Quadrilateral Cooperation Coordination Mechanism and Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The spokesman said the visit of Gen Zhang was a concrete action to further implement the important consensus reached by two heads of states to further facilitate the all-weather strategic and cooperative partnership between China and Pakistan.

Gen Zhang Youxia led a delegation to Pakistan during May 17 to 20 and held talks with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and other senior military officials during the visit.
