NAB arrests two accused in land scam

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi arrested two accused after the recall/rejection of interim bail of three accused persons by the Sindh High Court.

The bail was cancelled with respect to three accused persons namely Ghulam Mustafa Phull, Former Secretary Land Utilization Department Sindh (currently Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad), and Abu Bakar Dawood and Abdul Aziz Dawood, both private persons, said a statement on Thursday.

Both Abu Bakar and Abdul Aziz Dawood have been arrested while Ghulam Mustafa Phull escaped the premises of the court, the statement said.

The accused were wanted in a reference under trial in Accountability Court Karachi which was filed on the charges of illegal conversion of 70 acres Industrial land to Residential/Commercial purpose.

The land is situated in Deh Phihai Korangi Karachi. The accused Ghulam Mustafa Phull had allegedly illegally approved such conversion of purpose in the year 2011 in his capacity as Secretary LU, which was in violation of law and rules.

The arrested accused will be produced before the Accountability Court on June 1, for judicial remand.
