Asifa rape/murder case begins at Pathankot

MIRPUR: The trial of the recent Kathua rape and murder case of the minor Kashmir girl Asifa commenced in the court of District and Sessions judge Pathankot city of Indian Punjab amid tight security.

Though the arguments on the charge sheet filed against the accused started on Thursday but the counsels of the accused sought directions from the court to the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir “government for the translated copies of the charge sheets, according to a message received here on Thursday from across the line of control.

Talking to reporters in occupied Srinagar on Thursday, the Advocate General of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir High Court Jehangir Iqbal Ganaie said, “The court has directed us to provide the translated copies of the charge sheets by Monday and we will provide them the translated copies”. It has been learnt that some 15-20 lawyers have been engaged by the accused for defending their cases and many of them belonging to Pathankote sought translated copies of the charge sheets and the court directed the J&K government to provide translated copies of the charge sheets to the lawyers of the accused by Monday.

The case will come up for hearing again Friday as per the directives of the Supreme Court of India, the report added.
