KP food authority conducts raids on bakeries, sweet shops

MARDAN: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Food Safety and Halal Authority officials on Thursday conducted surprise raids in different bakeries, hotels and foods shops and fined shopkeepers for poor hygienic conditions and the sale of substandard food items to people.

KP Food Safety and Halal Authority Deputy Director Operation Zeeshan Mehsud, Assistant Director Rukhsar Ali, Food Safety Officers Roqia Nawaz, Shafiq Ahmed and Waqas Mehmood conducted surprise raids on different bakeries, food and hotels shops and warned shopkeepers against the sale of expired and substandard foods to consumers during the month of Ramzan.

Talking to the media, Mehsud said the sale and purchase of sub-standard and expired goods was unacceptable and strict action would be taken against the violators.

He said that the media can play a vital role to educate and spread information about the role and objectives of the authority besides discouraging shopkeepers involved in adulteration in food and non-food goods.

“The people took a sigh of relief after the establishment of the authority and are praising our services since its establishment,” he claimed.

He said that the authority will continue indiscriminate action against violators and not allow any pressure from any quarter what so ever in a discharge of their official duties.
