Body set up to investigate murder of Sikh activist

PESHAWAR: A seven-member committee was constituted by the city police chief Wednesday to probe the murder of a Sikh peace activist.

Charnajeet Singh had been shot dead by an unknown attacker in Scheme Chowk area on the Kohat Road on Tuesday afternoon in what police suspect to be an incident of target killing.

A notification issued from the city police chief’s office informed that SSP investigation would head the probe body with the sub-divisional police officer Badbher, DSP investigations cantonment, circle officer Saddar, station house officer of Inqilab police station, investigative officer and an officer of the Intelligence Bureau.

The committee has been instructed to update the police high-ups about the investigation on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, the final rites of the late Sikh activist were offered at the crematorium on the banks of the River Indus at the Attock crossing after his body was taken there on Wednesday morning.
