KARACHI: K-Electric denied reports of unannounced electricity load-shedding in Karachi on Wednesday.

After the installation of new equipment at the Bin Qasim Power Plant, power supply in the city is in accordance with pre-set schedule, said a K-Electric spokesman.

K-Electric staff is also able to resolve relevant faults on time, said the spokesman.

In a contempt petition filed against K-Electric, the Sindh High Court (SHC) conducted a hearing early on Wednesday. K-Electric Chief Operating Officer (COO) Asif Saad told the court that a fault at the Bin Qasim Power Plant had resulted in unannounced load-shedding in certain parts of the city but that this has ceased to happen after the installation of new equipment.

The court was informed by K-Electric’s lawyer that load shedding being conducted in the metropolis falls under a load management exercise.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had earlier been directed to take action against K-Electric but had failed to do so, the court was informed.

A response has been summoned from the petitioner by the court on June 12.
