ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Usman Akhter Bajwa was unable to provide a ‘satisfactory’ answer pertaining to 113 ‘missing’ air conditioners in front of a Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) sub-committee.

The meeting was chaired by Member of National Assembly (MNA) Abdul Mannan.

Members of the meeting noted that the Parliament Lodges director had purchased mechanical and electrical equipment that was worth Rs187 million but these items were missing from the stock.

Similarly, the committee members noted that air conditioners worth Rs7 million had been removed from the lodges but did not come up under the stock heading.

The audit report that the committee was making use of to make these observations also noted, “The Departmental Audit Committee directed that the inquiry should be conducted by the Capital Administration and Development Division to fix responsibility for non-finalisation of inquiry by CDA despite a lapse of three years.”

The CDA chairman was also directed by the committee to initiate an inquiry against the officer who had conducted a “vague” probe pertaining to the matter.
