Air Marshal (r) Asim Suleiman appointed PIA chairman

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) on Tuesday welcomed its new chairman Air Marshal (r) Asim Suleiman after his appointment was confirmed by the prime minister.

In a statement issued on PIA’s official Twitter account, the airline extended a warm welcome to the new chairman saying that the team looks forward to working with Air Marshal (r) Suleiman for the growth and progress of the airline.

“There is no doubt that with his wealth of aviation experience and proven track record of influencing change will be a great asset to PIA. With his distinguished career history to date, we are confident that the new chairman will be a fervent and adept ambassador for PIA,” it said.

Air Marshal (r) Suleiman is the former Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) DG and retired from his post on February 2, 2018. He has the honour of being the first CAA DG to be selected on an open merit-based induction process initiated by the federal government, and finalised by the prime minister of Pakistan. During his illustrious career in CAA, he worked tirelessly to complete the remaining 49 per cent of the pending work of the mega project of the New Islamabad International Airport in just two years, said the statement.

In addition, planning of Lahore Terminal and New Gwadar Airport were completed under his guidance.

Air Marshal (r) Suleiman also represented Pakistan as the head delegate at ICAO Assembly in 2016, which included an address on Pakistan CAA’s role against terrorism, and twice headed PCAA delegation in Asia Pacific ICAO regional meetings where Pakistan’s viewpoint on civil aviation was presented.

Activity represented PCAA in all regional and international forums on subjects related to security and safety of commercial /civil aviation matters.

He also presided over D8 conference in civil aviation held at Islamabad in 2017.
