KARACHI: A woman and her ‘friend’ were arrested on Sunday by the Korangi police for killing her husband and brother on late Saturday night.
The deceased identified as, Naveed Ashraf, 27, and his brother-in-law Shahzeb, 20 were gunned down for what seemed like a personal dispute between the neighbours.
The Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Haider Raza told local media that the suspect, identified as Ejaz had ‘illicit ties’ with Naveed’s wife, Samreen.
Earlier, on Saturday night, Ejaz opened indiscriminate fire at Naveed and Shahzeb as they were sitting outside their house.
The two sustained severe injuries and were transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced them dead.
Following the killing, the police registered a double murder case against the two suspects and arrested them.
Ejaz in his statement before the police claimed that he was passing through the area when the deceased, Naveed, allegedly got hold of him and tried to snatch a pistol from him. The alleged killer added that he opened fire on Naveed in self-defence.
However, the SSP said the witnesses statements did not corroborate the suspect’s account of the events.
Police investigators collected eight spent bullet casings from the crime scene.
