50-50 star Majid Jahangir seeks govt’s assistance for medical treatment

LAHORE: 50-50 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic programmes of Pakistan Television (PTV), aired during the early 1980s and was loosely based on US comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL).

The show set new trends in the national media industry, introduced several comedy stars and shaped the comedy in Pakistan for coming years.

Among the several stars on the show, Majid Jahangir was the prominent one who gave countless memorable performances during the show which are still famous among the famous. His skit with Ismail Tara of ‘Babuwa and Manwa’ was one of the best parts of the show but after the end of the show Jahangir ran into unemployment and remained unable to find the work. The situation became worse for him after he became paralysed four years ago, and now he is forced to ask for the donation from people for his treatment.

In a photo, going viral on social media, the 50-50 star can be seen standing beside a banner with a donation appeal for his treatment in Lahore.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Majid Jahangir said that he has started the campaign two days ago, hoping that people of Lahore will help him.

“I have received calls from TV news channels and media and people have helped him but there is no announcement of support from the government,” the actor said.

Talking about the support from the media industry, the veteran actor said that he has not received any support or work from the industry where he has worked for years. “I have worked with several stars and actors but no one has offered me help,” he said, adding that after becoming paralysed he also could not find any work in TV.

“No one from TV industry has offered me anything, neither work nor donation,” he said.

He has appealed that the government assist him for the medical treatment.
