ISLAMABAD: Rao Tehseen, a Grade-21 officer of the Information Group, has been unable to take charge as the director general (DG) of the Radio Pakistan despite orders from the PM’s Secretariat, a private TV channel reported on Friday.
Tehseen was removed from his position as the Principal Information Officer (PIO) last year in June in the wake of an inquiry into the publication of a news on a meeting between civilian and military leaders — widely known as the ‘Dawn leaks.’
Tehseen was removed in line with the recommendations of a committee set up to hold an inquiry into the story. The channel reported that Tehseen was not being given charge of the Radio Pakistan director general on the directives of State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb.
The PM’s Secretariat issued orders of Tehseen’s appointment as head of the Radio Pakistan on May 13, but he is not being given the charge despite restoration and a notification of his appointment issued. The minister said that the appointment was made by the prime minister, however, the file was still lying with PM’s Office.
On the other hand, the channel reported that as per the law, the minister or the secretary concerned was authorised to give charge of a post to an officer. Following his removal over the news controversy, Tehseen was made officer on special duty (OSD) for more than a year.
