LAHORE: Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Friday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) believes in politics of decency and hopes that their opponents will also follow the same path in politics to show respect for the vote.

“PML-N is a platform that supports decent politics and propagates the idea of service to the masses through development,” PM Abbasi said while speaking at a public gathering after attending the ground-breaking ceremony for a six-lane overhead bridge at Imamia Colony Railways Crossing Shahdara.

The prime minister, who was accompanied by Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain and local leadership of the party, said the project would fulfill the longstanding demand of the people.

He said the project would cost Rs2 billion and would be executed by the National Highways Authority (NHA). He said as there was no apparent hurdle in the project, NHA should accomplish the task before the completion of the 18-month deadline.

Commenting on the state of the economy, the prime minister said that when PML-N came into power in 2013, the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) was three per cent, while it had now reached six per cent.

The prime minister said that the network of various development schemes in the entire country was a result of the power of vote and continuation of the democratic process. He said the present government had carried out unprecedented development work in the country which had no precedence in the country’s history, adding that uninterrupted power supply was being provided to the industries and load-shedding had become a thing of the past during their tenure.

Further, the prime minister said that his government had passed a landmark bill which would ensure the merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and bring the tribal belt into the national mainstream.

Castigating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) 100 days plan, the prime minister said that during its tenure, PTI could not deliver on their promises made to the people of KP and would fail once again.

Meanwhile, Abbasi said that those who were not loyal to their party can never be loyal to the masses, adding that people would reject these opportunists in the upcoming general elections in July.

Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating gas supply to different localities of NA-136 constituency, Abbasi said that people would respond through the power of the vote.

He further told the gathering that the government had launched gas supply projects in the district worth Rs10 billion during the last five years.
