Shehbaz says NAB a constitutional body, can summon anyone

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was a constitutional institution that could summon anyone to appear before it.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Tayyab Erdogan Hospital’s expansion plan at District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Muzaffargarh, the chief minister said NAB had summoned him earlier and if it wanted to, it could do so again.

It is worth mentioning that NAB has summoned CM Shehbaz Sharif in the Punjab Saaf Pani Company (PSPC) case. The chief minister is to appear before NAB on June 4 and a questionnaire has also been sent to Shehbaz by the anti-graft watchdog.

Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated the extension of the DHQ Muzaffargarh including a CT scan machine, Hepatitis Filtration Clinic, and a trauma centre.

Shehbaz, at the occasion, said the health culture in Punjab had been revolutionised and patients of Muzaffargarh would no longer need to visit Multan for CT scans. “The fee of CT scan will be provided by the Punjab government and it will work around-the-clock,” Shehbaz told the participants of the gathering and directed the officials concerned to ensure the presence of doctors, paramedical staff and medicines.

“The Punjab government has invested billions of rupees to provide latest medical facilities to the people,” said Shehbaz, adding that DHQs had been upgraded and modern CT scan machines were being installed across Punjab.

“State-of-the-art pathology labs have also been set up in DHQs and the measures taken by the Punjab government in the health sector have produced positive results,” said the chief minister.

He said that if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was elected again, in the next five years, it would bring southern Punjab at par with central Punjab.

Ministers, local PML-N leaders and workers, health secretary and other officials concerned were also present on the occasion. Dua was offered after the inauguration of the mega projects worth Rs530 million as well.

The chief minister inspected the emergency, OPD, operation theatres and other wards of the hospital and said the standards of medical facilities and wards of DHQ Muzaffargarh were no less than that in any top quality hospital.

Speaking to patients and their attendants, Shehbaz inquired about the medical facilities and provision of medicines. The chief minister also inquired about the health of patients and prayed for their early recovery.
