Govt yet to compensate family of martyred DIG Hamid Shakil

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has not compensated the family of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hamid Shakeel, who embraced martyrdom in Quetta last year.

In November 2017, DIG Hamid Shakil of Balochistan Police was martyred in the line of duty when a suicide bomber targetted his convoy on Airport Road in Quetta.

Right after the news of his martyrdom, then Balochistan chief minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, the interior minister and other representatives of Balochistan government had condemned the attack, besides vowing to ensure the provision of privileges and compensation to the family members of the deceased DIG.

However, the family has reported the provincial government’s failure to provide anything as yet.

“If this is the state of paying service to the family of a martyred officer, then the state of rewards given to the families of ordinary personnel must be even more embarrassing,” the family told a local news channel.

They further added that the sacrifice of officers who braved terrorism and lost their lives in order to protect their motherland should be honoured by their respective provincial governments.

The martyred DIG’s family appealed to the president of Pakistan to look into the matter, besides creating a system to ensure that families of martyrs are compensated.
