TOBA TEK SINGH: Two died and seven were injured when a scuffle led to an exchange of fire inside a mosque during Maghrib prayers in Chak 359-GB village close to Rajana on Tuesday.
According to police, the incident occurred when two groups affiliated with the Barelvi school of thought disputed with each other over the appointment of the prayer leader at the mosque. A minor scuffle broke out in the mosque before the Iftar but during Maghrib prayers, some members of the group entered the mosque and opened fire on the worshippers, killing a man and his father. The victims are identified as Muhammad Nawaz and his father Abid Ali.
The perpetrators have been identified as Arshad, Usman, Mansha, Naveed, Haider and Allah Ditta.
The injured worshippers were taken to DHQ hospital by Rescue 1122 but two among them known to be in critical condition were shifted to Allied Hospital in Faisalabad.
