Pakistan has surplus electricity in system, Senate body told

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Committee on Energy Tuesday was apprised that 2400 MW surplus electricity was available in the system adding that no power load shedding was being carried out at Iftar, Taraveeh and Sehri timings on the directives of federal government.
The committee which met with Fida Muhammad Khan in the chair reviewed the performance of Power Division and its attached departments.
The Joint Secretary Power Division and acting MD PEPCO informed the committee that uninterrupted power supplying was being provided to the domestic and industries.
He said on the directives of Minister for Power Division Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari uniform power load-management was observed across the country.
All the feeders were divided into various categories on the basis of losses, he said.
He said there were 8633 feeders across the country out of which zero load-shedding was being carried out on 5297 feeders.
The Chairman directed for ensuring smooth supply during Iftar, Tarveeh and Sehri timings. The committee also sought detail briefing from CEOs of GENCO and Lakra Power House in next meeting.
The meeting was attended by Senator Sirajul Haq, Mola Baksh Chandio, Muhammad Akram, Ahmed Khan and other senior official of power division and concerned departments.
