Third time’s the charm: KP govt postpones assembly session again

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Monday postponed the provincial assembly session which was supposed to take place on May 22, according to reports.

This is the third time that the authorities in KP have postponed the assembly session.

Earlier, the government had already changed the dates of the assembly session, which would have been the last session of the current assembly before it completes its tenure on May 28.

First, the KP law department had issued a notification for the summoning of the assembly session on May 3, then the department withdrew it and issued another notification for May 14, but the session could not be held and May 22 was notified as the new date of the session, which was withdrawn today.

It was reported that the session was postponed due to the busy schedule of the lawmakers.

On the other hand, the opposition members said that the government is running from the session as it cannot enter the house due to its weak strength.

Moreover, the KP government could not present the budget for the fiscal year 2018-19, whereas all other provinces and the federal government have presented their budgets.

However, it later agreed to present the budget when it obtained an assurance from opposition members to support the government in passing the budget, but the opposition backtracked from its words and the government had to withdraw the notifications of the session.
