ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued prohibition orders to two private television channels for airing foreign media content without approval.
PEMRA issued a prohibition order to Aaj TV for “airing programmes produced by foreign entities”.
These programmes include View 360 and Sairbeen which are produced by “foreign entities” Voice of America and BBC respectively.
PEMRA also issued a notice to Express News for airing DW Sawal which is produced by Deutsche Welle.
Both orders have been issued under Section 27 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amended) Act 2007.
The electronic media regulatory authority’s notices also warned that “in case of non-compliance of the prohibition orders the authority would proceed against” Aaj Tv and Express News.
