Brother kills sister, relative in Jacobabad to save ‘honour’

JACOBABAD: A man shot his 18-year-old sister and his 20-year-old relative Allah Bakhsh Dahani for an alleged relationship on Saturday to save his ‘honour’, police official Jan Muhammad Soomro told a local news source on Sunday.

“The killer used a Kalashnikov to commit the crime which took place within the jurisdiction of the Miranpur police station,” informed Soomro.

Station House Officer (SHO) Javed Mehar further informed that the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the man, his father and an unknown person.

He said that they arrested him after which he spilt the beans. “The suspect has confessed to the crime,” said Javed Mehar.

The woman’s body was moved to Civil Hospital Jacobabad, while Dahani’s body was taken to a hospital in Ghari Khairo for post-mortem examinations.

A recent government study has highlighted that the number of ‘honour’ killings in Jacoabad is the highest in all districts of Sindh over nine months up to March 2018, according to Dawn.

Additionally, a total of 1,643 cases of violence against women were filed by women across the province since July 2017.
