One of the soldiers, wounded in Thursday’s Quetta attack, regrets that he wasn’t able to kill the third suicide bomber as his focus shifted on saving his injured colleague.

In a video circulating on social media, the soldier, who is meeting his commandant in a hospital, can be seen in high spirits despite being injured. “Sir, I will fight and can give my life even if thousands of such terrorists attack,” he said, adding that these terrorists cannot reduce over resolve.

“This land is my mother and my life is for her.”

The wounded soldier said that he has only one regret that he could not kill the third suicide bomber. “I killed the two but could not target the third one because my friend and colleague was injured and I had to protect him,” he said.

The officer told him that no suicide bomber escaped and all five were killed. “But he escaped from my hands sir,” the soldier said.

Quetta witnessed a major terrorist bid on Thursday where five suicide bombers, attempting to storm the FC Madadgar Centre, were intercepted and killed by security forces.

“All five terrorists [were] killed by security forces,” an Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) statement said. “All five attackers were apparently Afghans.”

According to the ISPR, four soldiers were also injured in the ensuing exchange of fire and were shifted to the CMH in Quetta for treatment.

The militants mounted the attack in retaliation for the killing of the Balochistan Lashkar-e-Jhanvi chief Salman Badeni, a day earlier, in one of the city’s most secure neighbourhoods near Quetta cantonment.
