Afridi might be absent from World XI match against Windies

LAHORE: Shahid Afridi might be absent from Lords on May 31 for the charity match between International Cricket Council (ICC) World XI and the West Indies.

The former cricketer broke the news on Twitter saying that his doctor in Dubai had informed him that his knee injury would heal in another three to four weeks after which he hopes to regain full fitness.

“The match is being staged to raise funds to rebuild and restore five major cricket venues in the Caribbean that were damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria,” the ICC said in a statement.

Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik along with Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera were some of the first players to sign up for the event.

Earlier, Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan had withdrawn his name from the match due to personal issues. he was replaced by Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane.

 

The ICC has added Nepal’s young spin sensation Sandeep Lamichhane to the World XI squad.

The star-studded World XI squad will be led by England’s Eoin Morgan.

World XI squad: Eoin Morgan (captain), Dinesh Karthik, Mitchell McClenaghan, Hardik Pandya, Thisara Perera, Rashid Khan, Luke Ronchi, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Tamim Iqbal, Sandeep Lamichhane.
