PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government organised a sports festival for the transgender community in Peshawar.

Transgender persons from KP and Quetta attended the festival and took part in different games including cricket, tug-of-war, football, and badminton.

Talking to media on the occasion, transgenders rights activist Komal Shah Afridi appreciated the initiative stating that they enjoyed this a lot. “We are feeling fresh and as you can see people have also come to see us as we participated in different games,” Afridi said, adding this kind of events should be held on regular bases because they increase their confidence.

Further, Farzana Jan, President Trans Action KP, said that such events show that transgender individuals are not only for dance or things related to it. “As you can see some of the transgender participants can play cricket and football very well, which shows that they want to play these sports,” Jan said.

“We want to show that, like men and women, transgender persons can also play the sports,” the Trans Act president said, adding that the organisation is now working to bring forward the transgenders who want to do modeling and have interest in showbiz.

“We have many talented individuals who just need a chance.”
