ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) in collaboration with the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) launched a campaign Wednesday against smoking on public transport.
Stickers with messages against tobacco use were displayed in vehicles while drivers were also given awareness about health hazards of tobacco use.
Officials from ITP and CADD expressed their resolution to restrain smoking practices and make Islamabad a tobacco-free city.
In a statement, SSP (traffic) Farrukh Rasheed said that the public would be given awareness of ban on tobacco use in public transport as well as public places and also of hazards of tobacco use by making announcements on FM 92.4 of ITP.
He added that meetings would be also arranged with the office-bearers of transporters’ unions to ensure no smoking in transport.
According to Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health Ordinance 2002, smoking is illegal in public places and public transport while action would be taken against the violators, he added.
SSP Traffic announced that the ITP will ensure implementation of tobacco control laws through educating road users.
