Child footballers did get cash promised to them by Bilawal, clarifies Football Pakistan

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari did pay the cash award promised to the players of the Pakistan Street Child Football team in 2014, clarified PakistanFootball.com in a tweet on Thursday.

The cash award was announced as an appreciation for the Bronze medal won by the team at the Street Child World Cup, held in Brazil in 2014.

According to the tweet, Bilawal Bhutto had fulfilled his promise to the children team, it was, in fact, the Sindh govt that went back on its promises of cash prizes and jobs for the children.

“CLARIFICATION: It has been confirmed that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari did, in fact, pay the street child team the money he had promised in 2014, but Sindh Govt did not fulfil their promises of cash prize and jobs to the players. Hope he and Sherry Rehman can also make Sindh govt finally do that as well,” the tweet reads.

This tweet was a clarification of an earlier tweet that PakistanFootball.com sent out on Wednesday which read: “Requesting Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sherry Rehman, whatever the outcome of Street Child World Cup final is, please don’t call the players to take pictures with them and announce financial rewards, because you still haven’t paid the last batch from 4 years ago.”

In April 2014, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari hosted the Pakistan Street Child Football team at the Bilawal House where he congratulated each player for their performance at the Street Child Football World Cup in Brazil.

On the occasion, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also announced an award of Rs100,000 award for each player that has still not been received by the players, according to the aforementioned tweet.

Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, Sherry Rehman, MNA Faryal Talpur, Jameel Soomro, Qadir Patel, Sharmila Faruqi also attended the event. They took photos with the team on this occasion as well.

The Pakistani Street Child Football team won the bronze medal in the 2014 Street Child World Cup and was placed third after defeating the United States team.

Pakistan Street Child Football team was defeated by Uzbekistan in the final of the 2018 Street Child World Cup that was held on Wednesday in Russia.
