PFA seals five unhygienic food points in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday sealed five eateries and imposed a fine amounting to Rs378,500 on 58 outlets for not maintaining hygiene protocol in various districts of the province.

According to a handout, a PFA team sealed ‘What’a Paratha’ in Awais Colony, Lahore, for improper storage of eatables, failure to provide medical certificates of its workers, non-usage of filtered water and the presence of insects. The teams closed five food points, including an ice cream unit, in Bahawalpur and two each in Rawalpindi and Faisalabad.

The teams also imposed fines of Rs114,000 on 15 outlets in Rawalpindi, Rs58,000 on nine shops in Bahawalpur, Rs97,000 on 14 eateries in DG Khan, Rs50,500 on eight food outlets in Faisalabad, Rs40,000 on six joints in Gujranwala and Rs19,000 in Sargodha divisions.

A large quantity of adulterated foodstuff, including 1,600kg pickle, 2,000 kulfi pieces, 900kg fruit, 880kg salt and 200kg pepper, was discarded.
