QUETTA: The Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) protested on Monday outside the Balochistan Assembly against the torture of Murtaza Zeb Zehri by Sheikh Zayed Hospital’s security staff.
Members of the BUJ boycotted the assembly session during which the budget was presented and blocked Zarghoon Road to register their protest.
The protesters demanded that members of the security staff that allegedly manhandled their colleague must be dismissed from duty immediately.
Zehri said, “I was covering a story when the director ordered the security guards to snatch my camera following which five security guards started to beat me and broke my camera.”
Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti ordered an inquiry into the matter and said, “Balochistan Government believes in free and fair journalism in the province.”
