Bilawal congratulates new CPNE President Arif Nizami, secretary and others

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman, Bilawal Zardari on Sunday extended felicitations to the newly-elected office-bearers of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) including its President, Arif Nizami and Secretary, Dr Jabbar Khattak.

In his message, Bilawal said that regular elections of CPNE were a hallmark of democratic values, adding that his party has always encouraged the strengthening of democracy in professional bodies.

He said that freedom of press and freedom of expression are the topmost priorities for a democratic society to grow. He asked the newly-elected body of CPNE to play their due role in achieving this goal.

The PPP chairman also asked the CPNE President and Secretary to convey his congratulations and best wishes to the rest of the newly-elected office-bearers of the council.

Earlier, National Assembly (NA) Speaker, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker, Murtaza Javed Abbasi had also sent separate congratulatory messages to veteran journalist, Arif Nizami, expressing hope that newspapers and the publication industry will progress under his guidance.
