16 dead, 20 injured as rain, windstorm hit KP, FATA

PESHAWAR: At least 16 people died and 20 others injured after downpour and windstorm lashed parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on Sunday.

It has been reported that nine people died and fifteen others sustained injuries when the roof of a religious seminary collapsed due to heavy rain and strong windstorm in Mamond area of Bajaur Agency.

Moreover, four people died in Khyber Agency, while two lost their lives in Nowshera.

Similarly, due to the weather condition, one person died and five others were injured at Alpuri in Shangla District.

The injured were shifted to the nearby hospitals for treatment.

The Pakistan Metrological Department said scattered rain with thundershower occurred in KP, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the past 24 hours. Whereas, the weather remained hot and dry in plain areas of the country.

According to the Met Office, 60-millimetre rain was recorded in K-P’s  Saidu Sharif, 15 in Dir and Malamjaba, 13 in Kalam, 12 in Drosh and Lower Dir, 11 in Mirkhani, 08 in Pattan, 07 in Balakot, 06 in Parachinar, and Risalpur, 05 in Peshawar, 04 in Chitral, 03 in Kakul.

Whereas, a maximum of 15-millimetre rain had been recorded in Rawalpindi, 15 in Islamabad’s Golra, 05 in Saidpur, 04 in Bokra, 03 in Z.P, 12 in Murree, 09 in M.B. Din, 07 in Jehlum and 02 in Lahore.

Similarly, six-millimetre rain was recorded in Kashmir’s Muzaffarabad and Garidupatta, 05 in Rawalakot, 05 in Bagrot, and 03 in Astore.
