KASUR: The rape and murder case of six-year-old Zainab caused an outrage across the nation in January this year.  Following the incident, a local TV channel announced that a telefilm is in making on the same incident. Amin Ansari, the father of the deceased has announced to file a case against the TV channel, a local media house reported.

The idea to sensationalise an issue such as child abuse, while focusing on one issue has taken the entire nation by surprise. Moreover, this has not only garnered criticism from her family but the local public and social media as well.

According to a local media outlet, Zainab’s father stated that the TV channel did not seek their permission before announcing the making of the telefilm.

Moreover, it has been reported that the father will sue a UK-based Non-Government Organisation (NGO) for ‘misusing’ the name of his daughter for its vested interest.

The father states that the Zainab case has nothing to do with this NGO that is set upon making money in her name. He stated that like the TV channel, the NGO did not seek consent from the family.

The local media outlet stated that the telefilm is titled ‘Zainab Kay Qatil’ and has been written by known writer Umera Ahmed.

Earlier, Shahzad Hameed’s documentary on Kasur’s sexual abuse scandal titled ‘Kasur’s Lost Children’ had won an award at the New York Festival in 2017. However, the industry, locals and social media users have expressed anger against the film on Zainab.

Zainab had gone missing on Jan 4 and her body was found on Jan 9. Her rapist and murderer, Imran Ali, was arrested about three weeks later. He was awarded multiple death sentences by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in February.
