Interpol issues red notice to PML-N UC chairman for alleged murder: report

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Begowal Union Council (UC) Chairman Imran Cheema was named in a red notice issued by the Interpol for allegedly killing a journalist in Sialkot, reported a local media outlet.

The chairman is wanted by Sialkot police in a matter pertaining to the murder of a reporter, Zeeshan Butt and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had approached the Interpol for help in arresting Cheema, according to reports.

Cheema had reportedly fled to Dubai after allegedly murdering Butt in March.

Earlier, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) had taken a suo motu notice of the matter following which Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz was directed to submit a progress report pertaining to the matter within 10 days.

Police arrested three suspects in the matter so far.
