Federal Defence Minister Engineer Khurram Dastgir on Friday was appointed as the foreign minister following the disqualification of former foreign minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif last month.
Dastgir has been the defence minister since August 2017 when Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi formed a new cabinet after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif.
Dastgir has also served as the minister for commerce from 2014 to 2017.
Earlier, former foreign minister Khawaja Asif was disqualified for holding an Iqama of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The petition was filed by PTI leader Usman Dar who contested and lost the 2013 general elections against Asif in NA-110 Sialkot.
