Two Rawalpindi policemen suspended for ‘torturing man to death’

RAWALPINDI: Two policemen on Thursday were suspended over their involvement in a torture case, reported media.

Saddar SHO Inspector Raja Akhtar and sub-inspector Bilal were suspended by the superiors after a man, identified as Mansoor, died due to torture at the hands of the police officers. A case has also been registered against them at Raja Bazaar police station.

The FIR states that suspects had detained Mansoor illegally, adding that he remained under arrest for four days. However, when Mansoor’s condition started to deteriorate, he was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

The FIR further mentioned that no case was registered against the deceased.

After the death of Mansoor, his family and relatives held protests in different parts of the city. Due to public pressure, an inquiry into the case was launched by the police.

This is not the first incident of police brutality.

On February 5, a 23-year-old man was reportedly tortured to death in police custody in Rawalpindi.
