Sindh government announces 2,782 vacancies for CPEC security

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Thursday announced as many as 2,782 posts to be filled in the Fiscal Year 2018-19 for the security of the multi-billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

While presenting FY 2018-19 budget in the Sindh Assembly, the Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that the provincial government had created 2,782 posts for security of CPEC related projects, 2,959 posts for training of crime branch, traffic and technical training for enhancement of capacity of these units, and 11,259 posts of different ranks for Sindh police for which a fund worth Rs5.712 billion has been allocated in the new SNE, he said.

“With untiring efforts of law enforcement agencies and support of our brave people, we have been able to restore peace not only in Karachi but to the entire province. No doubt, street crime has not come to grip as effectively as it should have. However, I am hopeful that with the dedicated efforts of our law enforcement agencies this menace will also be eliminated with the passage of time”, he added.

The CM said that police department is moving towards specialisation and professionalism. In this regard, more specialised units including Counter Terrorism Department, Special Security Unit, Rapid Response Force, Anti-Riot Unit, Anti Car Lifting Cell, IT and others have been set up.

Human resource capacity of the police is also being enhanced through meritocratic recruitment through National Testing Service (NTS), training by Pakistan Army, better incentive packages, and introduction of welfare schemes as well as benefits under Shaheed Compensation and Recognition Act, 2014, the CM said.

He further told that the recruitment of 10,000 police personnel have been made through NTS and Rs.159 million provided for training of newly recruited police constables at Pakistan Army Training Centers.

The investigation capability is being enhanced by establishing a state of the art forensic lab besides DNA lab and crime record database.  For the first time in the history of Sindh Police, all driving license branches throughout the province have been centrally connected and driving licenses are being delivered to the applicants at their doorstep through courier service.

A large number of schemes are proposed, particularly in revamping of CTD and creating a professional and dedicated force styled as Counter Terrorism Force (CTF) and enhancing compensation for Shaheed / Injured at par with other provinces and allocating Rs2 billion compensation package.
