Capital to stick with ‘original’ master plan for now

ISLAMABAD: During the eighth board meeting of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) here on Wednesday, the top cadre of the civic agency deliberated over a 21-point agenda items that had things as diverse as restoration of plots to revision of the entire master plan of Islamabad.

The agenda pertaining to the hiring of a consultant for revision of the master plan has been approved. Interestingly, the very next item number 17 pertaining to strengthening of the Master Plan Directorate was not considered during the board meeting.

Among the other important agenda items, the declaration of vehicular streets and imposition of charges for openings in the non-vehicular streets/lanes passages approved  the agenda item pertaining to the high court case where request regarding permission to construct 100 feet wide road as per approved layout plan of the Kuri Agro-Farming Scheme for access of the Park View City from the Kurri Road, delayed for further deliberation.

The agenda item pertaining to uniform planning parametres for the construction of medium wise residential apartments in ZONE-IV, Zone-IlV and Zone V has been approved. The next agenda that was carried forward from the last board meeting about earmarking of nurseries plots in the right of way in H-sectors has been delayed for reconsideration in the next meeting.

Another important agenda was layout plan of the Blue Area, the business hub which was delayed during the last meeting was postponed for further deliberation along with the zoning control policy of 2017 for sector E-11. The agenda related to review of the decision of March 2017 regarding levy of corner charges and waiving of 7.7 million against a plot in Sector F-6 had been earmarked to be reconsidered.

While another plot in Sector G-9 Markaz has been handed back to its original allottee. The stop gap arrangements in full display at all tiers of CDA coupled with NAB, FIA, and other agencies breathing down its neck and looking into the wheeling and dealing of its officials, the authority during recent weeks has been in the eye of the storm. The city managers are avoiding taking big steps and decisions and prefer being the seat warmers for those appointed by the next government.
