Bill Gates recognises Pakistan’s use of innovative systems for immunisation coverage

Microsoft Corporation Co-Founder Bill Gates on Thursday acknowledged Pakistan’s use of innovative systems for immunisation coverage and termed it an example for the rest of the world.

According to an official statement released here, Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Chairman Dr Umar Saif was invited by the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation to Seattle as part of its Global Good meeting.

At the occasion, Gates said that the results achieved by the PITB chairman were unprecedented in the world.

Speaking to media representatives following the meeting, Dr Saif said that the comments and recognition of his work by Bill Gates was very encouraging.

In the meeting, five people from all over the world were invited as examples of how innovative technology and data had been used to advance global development goals, especially coverage of child immunisation and public health, the statement read further and added that Dr Umar Saif presented how innovative systems developed by his team changed immunisation coverage in Punjab from 18% to 88% in less than two years.

He also presented his work on using a smartphone-based system which helped eradicate Dengue in Punjab.
