Founded by publicist Eleanor Lambert, the Costume Institute Gala is the biggest event on the fashion fundraising calendar. The event is chaired by Vogue’s Anna Wintour. The event is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which is where it also gets the name, ‘Met Gala’. The 2018 Met Gala which was the event’s 70th anniversary, was co-chaired by Rihanna, Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney.

The theme of the Met Gala 2018 was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination (haw hayee).

We bring you the best (and worst dressed) celebrities, style icons and models from this year’s Met Gala.

Best Dressed at the Met Gala 2018

1- Rosie Huntington-Whitley

The actress, model and former Victoria’s Secret angel attended the Met Gala 2018 in an ethereal caped Ralph Lauren gown, paired with Ana Khouri Gioconda earrings. But what took her breath apart from her crystal clear skin was that she wore an actual halo in her hair.

2- Kim Kardashian

Kim wore a vintage chain mail dress by Gianni Versace and Lorrain Schwartz jewellery. Her golden gown features giant cross detailing that befits the event’s theme.

3- Amal Clooney

The high-profile attorney turned heads as she stepped onto the gala’s red carpet. Amal wore Richard Quinn and looked flawless in a floral strapless gown which boasted the most luxurious train. She paired this with the chic-est trousers and we’re absolutely in love with her look.

4- Blake Lively

Lively, the 30-year-old television and film star, wore Atelier Versace paired with, wait for it,  a staggering $2 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.  Her halo featured 100 carats of champagne diamonds. She carried a Judith Leiber Couture bag and walked in Christian Louboutin shoes.

5- Katy Perry

The superstar wore a gold Versace chain mail dress (which seemed to be a favourite at the gala) with thigh-high boots. What struck the eye and turned heads were the giant feathered white angel wings she wore (and carried off). Everything seemed to be in line and the greatest compliments were her short hair and flawless skin.

6- Irina Shayk

Shayk was dripping in a gold Versace Atelier (Oomph!) number, that featured a beaded bodice, cascading pleated shirt and a plunging neckline. She accessorised her outfit with a choker that complimented her metallic ensemble.

7- Gigi Hadid

Gigi looked positively ethereal in the beaded, stain glass window-inspired Versace dress she wore and successfully evoked the look of a translucent butterfly wing.

8- Rihanna

Rihanna, who recently also launched her lingerie line and was the co-chair of this year’s gala, took the gala’s theme a little too literally and showed up in a papal-inspired, crystal and pearl-embellished Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano. She complimented her look with a matching necklace and papal mitre.  She wore jewellery by Konstantino, Cartier and Maria Tash, walked in Louboutins and carried a custom Judith Leiber Couture clutch.

9- Priyanka Chopra (The fashion disaster)

Yes! Priyanka Chopra not only attended the Met Gala but also successfully managed to set an example of what not to wear to the Gala! We can’t even begin to describe the problems with this outfit. Have a look for yourself. This is how you’re never supposed to wear Ralph Lauren.

10- Ruby Rose

Simply because we love her. Also, she looks flawless as ever with her divine cheekbones, beautiful lips and transcendent skin.
