5.3 magnitude quake jolts Swat, surrounding areas

SWAT: An earthquake of 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale was felt in Swat and surrounding areas on Thursday, National Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department said.

According to the initial details, tremors of the quake that originated from Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region were felt in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The tremors were observed in Swat, Malakand division, Lower Dir, Manshera, Hangu, Abbottabad, Ghizer, and Mardan. The earthquake had the depth of 187 km.

Panic was spread throughout the region and people came out of their residences and workplaces.

The jolts were also felt in various districts of Punjab and Sindh. The residents of Sargodha, Faisalabad and other districts too felt the tremors.

Media reports said a child was injured after the roof of a house collapse due to the quake in Sargodha.
