Police allegedly torture man to death

RAWALPINDI: A father of three was reportedly tortured to death in the police custody in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

The family of the deceased man claimed that he was detained and tortured to death by the police.

The Saddar Bairuni police had arrested him some four days back for his alleged involvement in a burglary case. The police team in the police station tortured him badly and when his health turned deteriorated, the police released him from the custody.

He was taken to hospital citing his deteriorated condition where he died after two days. The family blamed the Saddar Bairuni and RA Bazaar police for killing the victim.

Following the death, the family members and relatives of the victim staged a protest demonstration and chanted slogans against the police brutality.

They appealed to the chief justice to take notice of the police brutality and initiate the inquiry against SHOs of Saddar Bairuni and RA Bazaar police station.

While taking notice of the incident, CPO Rawalpindi has sought a report on the incident from DSP Saddar.
