KARACHI: A petition was filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday requesting the court to put a ban on political rallies in the metropolitan on May 12.
The petition stated that May 12 is observed as a black day and that holding political rallies on that day may result in a loss of lives, referring to the recent clash between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) earlier this week.
The petition was filed by Iqbal Kazmi who also requested the court to cancel the permission granted to both political parties for holding rallies on May 12.
Earlier this week PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari blamed PTI for the incident at Hakeem Saeed ground but invited it to hold its rally at the venue.
The ground turned into a battlefield on May 7 after the workers of the two parties clashed to seek its control.
Both the parties planned to hold a rally on May 12 at the same venue which lies in the heart of the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood.
