NAB Rawalpindi files reference against former WAPDA chairman, others

RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi on Wednesday filed a reference against former WAPDA chairman Tariq Hammed and others in accountability court in Islamabad.

According to the details, Hammed, ex-member power M Anwar Khalid, ex-member finance Imtiaz Anjum, ex-member M Mushtaq Chaudhry, WPPO former GM and General Electric Energy (GEE) M/S Fazal Ahmad Khan are involved in corrupt practices regarding illegal awarding of Rental Services Contract (RSC) to the M/S without open competitive bidding upon favourable terms and conditions in violation of PPRA Rules, NEPRA Act and directions of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of cabinet which caused huge loss to the national exchequer.

So far NAB Rawalpindi has recovered Rs3,601.965 million in rental power projects (RPPS) and returned to the national exchequer and other concerned offices.

NAB Rawalpindi in total investigated 12 rental power mega scandals and filed references in all 12 cases including Karkey Ship, Piranghaib Multan, Sahiwal Sialkot, Guddu Sindh, Naudero II Sindh, Summundri Road, Naudero-I Sindh, Reshma Power Generation Raiwand M/S,  Young Gen Power Ltd M/S, Bhikki Sheikhupara, Gulf Rental Power Pvt Ltd M/S and 150  MW- Sharaqpur RPP  in an accountability court in Islamabad.

The main accused in these references are former minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former finance minister Shaukat Tareen, PEPCO ex-secretary and chairman Ismail Qureshi, PEPCO ex-secretary and chairman Shahid Rafi, former PEPCO MD Tahir Basharat Cheema and others.

NAB Rawalpindi Director General Irfan Naeem Mangi said that NAB believes in across the board accountability and focuses on cases rather on faces under the able guidance of worthy NAB Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal.
