26-year-old Italian-Pakistani woman was strangled to death: forensic report

GUJRAT: A 26-year-old Italian-Pakistani woman, Sana Cheema, was reportedly killed in an alleged ‘honour killing’ case and was strangled to death.

According to the Punjab Forensic Laboratory report, Sana’s neck bone was broken. Moreover, on April 24, it was reported that Sana was killed by her father, brother, and uncle over ‘honour’.

According to the police, the deceased’s family had buried the body in West Mangowal area of Gujrat and termed her death an ‘accident’.

It was found that the girl’s father, identified as Ghulam Mustafa, wanted to marry her off to his relative but Sana wanted to marry of her own choice in Italy.

The father then took into confidence his son, Adnan Mustafa, and brother, Mazhar Iqbal, and hatched a plan to kill her a day before her return to Italy.

On April 25, her body was discovered and samples were sent for post-mortem.

Following the investigation, medical documents surfaced verifying that Sana was taken to the hospital on April 11 seeking treatment for blood pressure and stomach ache. The doctor’s prescription, along with the hospital and medical store bills were also received by the police to probe further into the matter.

The Italian Foreign Ministry had stated that they are determined to reach to the bottom of the case and are willing to help the Pakistani authorities with the same.

Moreover, the case was picked up on social media with the hashtags #JusticeforSana and #TruthforSana demanding justice for the departed.
