MOSCOW: Russia is set to showcase its Robot tank and other new military gadgets at the Victory Day Parade commemorating World War II victory in Moscow on Wednesday.

First unveiled in September 2016, the Uran-9, as it is known, is a tracked Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) designed specifically to provide remote reconnaissance and fire-support to Russian infantry units stationed away from enemy fire or operate autonomously.

The tank can travel at a top speed of 35 km/h and is fitted with a range of sensors and weapon systems. The system has already been reportedly tested in Syria.

The Uran-9 can be equipped with a range of light/medium calibre weapons depending on the mission and has the ability to carry four guided anti-tank missiles to engage armoured units.

The main turret has a 30mm automatic cannon and a 7.62mm machine gun to target infantry. In addition, it has the potential to carry Shmel-M reactive flamethrowers that can target infantry taking cover inside shelters.

Depending on the mission profile, the Uran-9 can also carry surface-to-air missiles to engage helicopters and other aircraft.

A laser warning system, and electro-optic and thermal imaging cameras act as the eyes and ears of the vehicle, allowing it to detect targets at a distance of 6 km during daylight hours and 3 km in dark.

Russia has already announced it would promote the Uran-9 in international defence markets.
