LAHORE: Not a single legislator of the treasury benches spoke in the Punjab Assembly session to condemn the attack on Federal Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal, media reports said on Tuesday.

The lack of interest in the Punjab Assembly session was apparent when Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan continued calling the names of five movers whose questions were part of the agenda items put forward to the education department. However, since none of them were present, the questions were disposed of. Four movers belonged to PML-N, while the other, Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar was of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The topic of education was discussed during the session and Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education Mehwish Sultana informed the assembly that classrooms had already been constructed based on the present number of students. She also stated that the education system is being run through CTIs at the moment.

PTI’s legislator Mian Muhammad Aslam Iqbal raised the issue of Medical College Admission Tests and Engineering College Admission Test demanding Speaker Rana to issue clear directions to the concerned department in order to safeguard the future of the children.

PTI Central Vice President Shoaib Siddiqui, on Monday, submitted an adjournment motion in the provincial assembly against the sky-rocketing prices ahead of Ramzan. Siddiqui pointed out that the prices of essential commodities are spiraling and no action is being taken against it.

He added that though the government agencies have fixed the prices of essential commodities, they have failed to ensure availability at the notified rates. He said that the citizens are extremely worried and concerned about the increasing inflations with the holy month right around the corner.

He requested the Punjab Assembly Speaker to address this issue and give it utmost priority so that the citizen’s woes may be eased.
