Ahsan Iqbal’s attacker strongly condemns attack on Ahsan Iqbal

NAROWAL – The self-confessed attacker who has claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday has strongly condemned the assassination attempt.

In an exclusive interview with The Dependent, Abid Hussain, son of Mohammad Hussain, a resident of Verum village, Tehsil Shakargarh of Narowal district, said there was ‘no excuse’ for the attack.

“Political differences aside, there is no justification for shooting someone and taking law in one’s own hands,” Abid Hussain said.

“Other than of course the fact that there were ideological differences as well, which have been underlined by many leaders and institutions, which prompted me to pull the trigger. No other excuses of course.”

Abid said that he would never imagine himself defending such an act.

“That’s why I went on and committed it myself, because no one would really ask me if I would defend it or not – and I do not, I completely do not,” he added.

“But yes, there’s a lot of anger against PML-N, saying which would sort of be interpreted as justifying the act, so I won’t say it.”

The attacker said that if it were possible, he’d be in Services Hospital presenting the interior minister a bouquet of flowers.

“But unfortunately it looks as though I’ll be in jail by the time he is discharged from the hospital,” Abid regretted.

“But what matters is that he is, by the grace of Allah, absolutely safe.”
