ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday directed the concerned government departments to submit on the fifth of every month a certificate stating that all government employees are paid their dues on time

He issued these directives while hearing a case related to non-payment of salaries to Capital Development Authority (CDA) employees.

During the hearing, the chief justice observed that the employees of the civic agency have not been paid their salaries yet. To this, CDA Chairman Usman Bajwa informed the court that the daily wage employees were paid their salary by May 4 and added that the payments were delayed due to an audit.

Chief Justice Nisar then directed the CDA chief to submit a certificate in this regard.

Moreover, Finance Ministry’s officials told the court that they had already submitted a certificate in this regard at the last hearing.

“The prime minister should submit certificates to the court stating that all government employees are paid their dues on time,” the CJP remarked.

At the last hearing of the case on Friday, Mian Saqib Nisar had vowed that he would take his salary only after all the government employees have been paid theirs.

The CJP had said that at times these employees are not paid even until the 24th of a month.

The accountant general of Pakistan (AGP) told the court that last month’s salaries were not paid in his department only because the department did not get the required budget.

To which, the CJP responded that regardless of the reason, salaries should be paid on time and that whatever the problem is, it should be resolved.

The AGP and Finance Ministry had assured the court of paying dues to all employees by the end of the day.
