Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has lent his voice to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in the Hindi version of Hollywood film Deadpool 2.

The studio wanted a star who would resonate with Deadpool’s personality and Ranveer’s wit and edgy personality was a perfect match, read a statement to IANS.

“Like Deadpool, Ranveer is known for his smart, witty with irreverent humour. He’s a hugely daring and powerhouse actor and we absolutely relished having him on board for our biggest superhero film,” said Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh.

A new Hindi trailer, featuring Ranveer, was released on Monday. The trailer will also be A-rated as the studio wanted to stick to the tone of the English film which has Reynolds mouthing cuss-words.

Sharing a link to the trailer, Ranveer wrote, “Astonishing how effectively I’ve managed to out-crass my Canadian counterpart @VancityReynolds. Never realised how fulfilling & rewarding foul Hindi language can be!”

Ranveer was previously rumoured to have turned down the role due to scheduling conflicts with Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy.

According to a report in the Mumbai Mirror, Ranveer was offered the big dubbing role in the film, which he had to back out of due to prior commitments. A source told the daily that the Deadpool team wanted to hire Ranveer for his mannerisms and mischievous spirit.

“Ranveer was extremely keen but he just couldn’t make time in his Gully Boy schedule as he is shooting at night every day,” the source said.

A Hindi trailer for the film has already been released but will have to be redubbed with Ranveer.

The sequel also features Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Zazie Beetz, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapicic and Leslie Uggams.
