–Shehbaz says those speaking of accountability completely drenched in corruption themselves

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said the people of southern Punjab were very dear to him and he had always given special focus to the development of the region.

Speaking during a meeting with federal and provincial ministers, members of national and provincial assemblies as well as local bodies’ representatives, who called on him, Shehbaz said the pace of development in southern Punjab had been speedily moved forward and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had provided resources to the region on priority basis.

“As a result, southern Punjab is now projecting the image of a developed area,” he added.

The chief minister also said that the provision of rights to the people of southern Punjab was his responsibility and he would fulfill his duty no matter what happened.

“The rulers of the past terribly ignored southern Punjab and those who raise the slogans of southern Punjab province should first peep into their own conscience,” he said.

Ongoing development programmes in southern Punjab were also discussed in detail during the meeting.

On the occasion, the PML-N lawmakers and leaders paid tributes to the dynamic leadership of Shehbaz for taking unprecedented steps for development and prosperity of the southern region. They said that public welfare and prosperity of southern Punjab had always been given priority by the incumbent chief minister and such development had never been carried out in the 70-year history of the country.

“Your tenure is a golden period for southern Punjab and you have given the rights to its people by burning the midnight oil,” they said and added that Shehbaz had spread a network of educational institutions including hospitals, roads and bridges in the province.

They lamented that claimants of southern Punjab province had always ignored this area, but owing to Shehbaz’s efforts, people of southern Punjab loved him and the PML-N would once again stand victorious in south Punjab in the upcoming general elections.

Separately, assembly members from various districts called on PML-N President Shehbaz. Speaking at the occasion, the chief minister said that public service would be the only parameter of success in the upcoming general elections.

“Those who are making tall claims of bringing ‘tabdeeli‘ [change] could not complete a single project worth mentioning in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP),” he said and maintained that those who raised slogans of overcoming load shedding could not generate even a single megawatt of electricity in KP. He further said that those speaking of accountability were completely drenched in corruption themselves. On the other hand, the PML-N government, he said, had set new records of public service and development.

Among those who called on Shehbaz were Provincial Minister Malik Muhammad Asif Bha, Member Punjab Assembly Syed Hussain Jahania Grdezi and Haji Ahsanul Din Qureshi.
